Julian Edelman Reacts To What He’s Seeing From Mac Jones

November 14, 2021 by The Spun

Julian Edelman speaking to the media.

Through the first half of the regular season, Mac Jones had already shown that he was one of the brightest quarterbacks in this year’s rookie class.

His performance on Sunday proved that he might be one of the most talented young players in the NFL.

Jones was masterful in the New England Patriots 45-7 rout of the Cleveland Browns. He ended the contest 19-for-23 with 198 yards and three touchdowns.

The No. 15 overall pick in this year’s draft was incredibly efficient throughout Sunday’s win and managed a perfect game for the Patriots. He also caught the attention of former New England wide receiver, Julian Edelman.

The recently retired Patriot took to Twitter to give his thoughts on the rookie’s remarkable showing.

“The kid is dealing…” Edelman wrote on Twitter in the first half about Jones.

A lot has changed over the last few weeks for the Patriots and Edelman’s opinion on their played has changed as a result. Earlier in the year, when New England was a disappointing 2-4, the former franchise receiver said that the offense needed to clean up its play.

“The Patriots just aren’t the Patriots right now, and it hurts me to say this. They are not the Patriots,” Edelman said, via WBZ Boston Sports. “We are so used to seeing the last 20 years  — and I know there’s different players, and this, that, but there’s still a group of guys in there that know how they should play.

“They need to start playing mistake-free football. They’ve had a handful of plays this year where they if they would have went their way, if they would have taken care of the football, if they didn’t get two blocked punts — hasn’t been done since ’93 in New England), if they would have not thrown an interception, if the linemen didn’t let the quarterback have guys running at him free … . I’m a little venting right now.”

Since Edelman made those remarks, the Patriots have won four straight games. They’re now firmly in the AFC playoff picture through 10 weeks.

Jones threw for three touchdowns for the first time in his career on Sunday and improved to 6-4 as an NFL starter. He’ll be back in action soon enough when New England takes on Atlanta this upcoming Thursday.

If he can continue to play at such a high level, the Patriots should be regarded as a serious contender in the AFC.
