Player Overview

A local product, Khyree Jackson is from Upper Marlboro, Maryland. He used his talents on the football field to help Wise High School to a state championship. Despite being a four-star recruit, Jackson did not play football in 2017 and 2018 and questioned if he wanted to continue playing the sport. He would find his way back to the football field in 2019 after a coach from Fort Scott Community College in Kansas reached out to him. Jackson would go on to be a junior college All-American and transfer to Alabama. In two years at Alabama, Jackson mostly played special teams and provided depth. Jackson entered the transfer portal and decided to fill Oregon’s void at cornerback left by Christian Gonzalez. His sole season for the Ducks was his most impressive, resulting in All-Pac-12 first team honors.

Strengths

  • Height and length give him formidable size for the position
  • Good footwork to mirror receivers’ releases
  • In press, punch is effective to disrupt route timing
  • Length will bail him out even when he is beat downfield
  • Doesn’t hesitate to lay a big hit on ball carriers

Weaknesses

  • Use of shuffle instead of backpedal makes transitions inconsistent
  • Hip tightness hurts ability to turn and run in press
  • Doesn’t have the long speed to run with fast WRs
  • Will grab at break point or when beat deep

Let’s See His Work

Khyree Jackson is a CB prospect in the 2024 draft class. He scored a 8.54 #RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 330 out of 2255 CB from 1987 to 2024.https://t.co/FanTHE1o1L pic.twitter.com/cn5dZuc5A0

How He Fits on the Commanders

The Commanders appear set at cornerback for the upcoming season with Emmanuel Forbes, Benjamin St-Juste, and Quan Martin slated to start. When you consider that this is the last year of St-Juste’s contract and the secondary’s struggle overall last season and the new brass could look to improve the position in the draft.

With his height and length, Khyree Jackson looks a lot like a cornerback that would fit into Dan Quinn’s Legion of Boom defenses. His play-style would also fit into those defenses as he is aggressive and not afraid to strike opponents. His aggression can work against him downfield where he can get handsy and draw flags. He moves well at his height, but there is some lack of agility that the team that drafts him will need to be comfortable with.

Before the start of the season he’ll be 25. How much more room for growth does he have as a player? If the Commanders use a system that gives him safety help over he top and allows him use his physicality to disrupt routes and play the run, Jackson would be a good fit. He could see snaps during his rookie year with the expectation that he’d be ready to start when St-Juste’s contract ends.
