Alabama and Clemson have been the most dominant programs in college football the last several years, but they have not looked like themselves so far this season.
Clemson in particular has struggled, starting 3-2 and failing to generate consistent offense. Alabama is 5-1, but the Crimson Tide suffered a shocking loss at Texas A&M last night.
With the rare opportunity to poke some fun at the two blue bloods, the Duke’s Mayo Bowl Twitter account sent out the following tweet this morning.
“We have seen many tweets about Alabama vs. Clemson in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. As a reminder we can only select teams with six wins or more,” it read.

The Duke’s Mayo Bowl is one of the more “online” bowl Twitter accounts, so we’re not surprised they took this playful jab. Of course, a hypothetical Alabama-Clemson matchup would be a coup for a mid-level bowl, but we don’t think it will happen.
The Crimson Tide can still make the playoff if they win out, and unless Clemson drops two more games, they’ll likely still find themselves in a bowl a cut or two above the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.
