The Dallas Cowboys got encouraging news on quarterback Dak Prescott Sunday morning.
Prescott is dealing with a calf strain, though the Cowboys quarterback is reportedly expected to be back in time for their next game. Dallas is off this week, though the NFC East franchise will return on Halloween against the Vikings.
The NFL Network reported on Sunday that Prescott is expected to be back at practice by later this week.
Sources say Prescott is not expected to participate in a light practice Monday when the team returns from its bye. The soonest he would practice is Wednesday, and the team will monitor him closely to make sure he’s moving like himself and not putting himself at risk of a relatively minor issue turning into something more.
It’s the same long-term thinking the Cowboys used back in training camp, when Prescott missed substantial time because of a muscle strain in his throwing shoulder. The plan all along was to ramp him up gradually, and Prescott was ready for the opener.
Prescott has been recovering in recent days. However, he did make it out to a Dallas Stars game with his girlfriend, Natalie Buffett.

Buffett reacted to the photo on social media.
“My whole heart,” she wrote on Instagram.
The Cowboys, meanwhile, are set to return to the field on Halloween night against the Minnesota Vikings.
Kickoff is set for 8:20 p.m. E.T. on NBC.
