The Los Angeles Chargers are widely viewed as a darkhorse Super Bowl contender ahead of the 2021 season. We all know why (talking about you, Justin Herbert). Herbert’s success will largely be driven by the play of Keenan Allen, though.
Allen is somehow still one of the more underappreciated NFL superstars, perhaps because he plays for a Chargers team that doesn’t get much recognition. Regardless, his talent is undeniable. Allen, 29, made a Chargers defender look silly during Saturday’s practice.
The Chargers wide receiver approached the defender, used a quick side-step toward the boundary to avoid a jam and broke his route inside before flipping his hips and turning the route back out toward the sideline. He had five or six yards of separation from the defender before catching a pass from Herbert in the end-zone.
Take a look.

Watch out, folks. This Chargers offense could be dangerous.
Justin Herbert was sensational as a rookie last year. He completed 66.6 percent of his throws for 4,336 yards and 31 touchdowns with 10 interceptions. Some called it the best season by a rookie quarterback in NFL history. Will he take the typical second-year jump this upcoming season? If he does, the Chargers could be a legitimate threat to the Chiefs in the AFC West.
Keenan Allen, meanwhile, caught 100 passes for 992 yards and eight touchdowns last season. He should put up even better numbers this year because of the added continuity with Herbert.
