Urban Meyer took the field with his Jacksonville Jaguars for the third and final time in the preseason on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. The first-year NFL head coach left the stadium with his first official win with his new team and a renewed confidence for the regular season opener in two weeks.
Although the Jaguars victory was a major accomplishment for Meyer, it wasn’t the only special moment for his family on Sunday.
Soon after Jacksonville locked up the victory, Meyer took to Twitter to announce that his grandson, Troy, had reach a milestone of his own: scoring his first ever touchdown.
“My grandson scored his first touchdown today! The first of many to come. Great job, Troy!!” Meyer wrote on Twitter alongside a video of his grandson breaking away from the pack in a flag football game.

Obviously, Troy’s touchdown was the most important one for the Meyer family on Sunday. Maybe Urban can give his grandson a call and find him a spot on the Jaguars final roster.
Jacksonville wrapped up its three-game preseason slate on Sunday with a dominant 34-14 victory over the Cowboys. No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence quieted any of the team’s doubters for the time being with an impressive performance in the win. The rookie quarterback went 11-for-12 for 139 yards and two touchdowns to build some momentum for Week 1.
After the Jaguars first two preseason match-ups, Meyer and Lawrence were both under fire for the starting offense’s shoddy play. Some fans started to wonder how long the former Ohio State and Florida head coach would last in the NFL, while others tried to brush off the shaky starts since they came in exhibition games.
Although the Jaguars were largely playing against the Cowboys second-team, Sunday’s win was vital for the team’s confidence. Meyer will be able to take what worked this weekend and implement that into Jacksonville’s gameplan in two weeks.
The Jaguars will kick-off their regular season on Sept. 12, on the road against the Houston Texans.
