Quarterback Cam Newton looked sharp in his return to the Carolina Panthers this past. Between his strong play and an unremarkable performance from starter P.J. Walker, Matt Rhule addressed his QB situation.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Rhule said that the team is “trending” towards letting Cam start. Panthers insider Joe Person translated that as Cam definitely getting the starting job.
Rhule said that he won’t make an official decision until later this week. He said that the team might put in packages that will feature Cam and Walker.
Against the Arizona Cardinals, Cam had nine snaps on offense – but made the most of them. He had three completions for 75 yards and a touchdown as well as another 14 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Walker, meanwhile, went 22 of 29 for 167 yards and an interception.

i.e, he’s starting.— Joe Person (@josephperson) November 17, 2021
The Carolina Panthers are currently 5-5 and just one win behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC South. They’ve already matched last year’s win total.
But the offense ranks near the bottom of the league despite having a top 6 defense. Between Week 7 and 9, the Panthers scored just 28 total points, losing to the Patriots and Giants in the process.
Cam Newton clearly provided some sort of spark in his return to the team on Sunday. By the looks of things, he’ll get a chance to ignite the team with a bigger role against the Washington Football Team.
Will Cam get the start against Washington? Does he deserve to start so soon after joining the team?
