Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin remains a staunch supporter of his former team. He appeared on First Take on Monday, and made a very bold claim about his 4-1 franchise.
Dallas blasted the rival New York Giants on Sunday, outgaining them 515 to 367 in a 44-20 win. The Giants lost Saquon Barkley during the game, which certainly hurt, but Dallas looked like a solidly better team. Irvin thinks they’ve earned their place atop the league at this point.
“Right now, the Dallas Cowboys are the best team in the NFL,” he told a flabbergasted Stephen A. Smith. “They’re playing the football in the National Football League.”
“Stephen A., just the discussion before. You threw out ‘balance.’ You base your whole argument on balance. There is no team in the National Football League, right now, more balanced than the Dallas Cowboys.”

Offensively, Michael Irvin has a point. Dallas got it done in the run and pass game, with Dak Prescott tossing for 314 yards and three scores, while Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 110 and a touchdown, and Tony Pollard added 75 yards on the ground. On the year, Prescott has 1,368 yards, 13 touchdowns, and just three interceptions, while the Cowboys have 864 rushing yards and six score, averaging a very impressive 5.3 yards per carry as a team.
The star-studded Dallas Cowboys offense seems to be reaching its potential.
The team has impressed defensively as well, though, after really struggling on that end a year ago. Since the Week 1 31-29 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, no team has scored more than 28 points against them. They’re surrendering just over 23 points per game this season. which is middle of the pack in the NFL. If the offense keeps humming, that might be enough for Dallas to make some noise this winter.
The Cowboys have a very favorable schedule coming up. The team has a trip to face the New England Patriots on Sunday, before a bye. They come off of it with a trip to the Minnesota Vikings, and then home games against the Denver Broncos and Atlanta Falcons. It’d be a pretty big surprise if they weren’t 7-2 or 8-1 coming off of that stretch.
