MMA Fans React To Max Kellerman’s UFC Commentary Tonight

ESPN is making Max Kellerman a bigger member of its UFC coverage, and fans aren’t happy about it.

Kellerman is obviously well-versed in the world of boxing, but doesn’t have much experience at the MMA level. Regardless, ESPN gave him a major role in Saturday night’s UFC 265 card. Joe Rogan was unable to serve as a desk analyst Saturday night because of prior engagements. Kellerman replaced him, joining host Brett Okamota and Chael Sonnen.

Saturday night wasn’t the first time Kellerman has been involved in the UFC world. He was on the secondary desk during UFC 264, while First Take co-host Stephen A. Smith spent time with the main desk.

It’s safe to say MMA/UFC fans weren’t happy with Kellerman’s commentary Saturday night.

“Can we stop with Max Kellerman and Steven A Smith attempting to give commentary on UFC matchups? There’s enough talent between current and former fighters to have entertaining and knowledgeable commentators,” one fan said on Twitter.

Take a look at what other MMA fans thought about Kellerman’s performance Saturday night.

Max Kellerman being better than Stephen A Smith is hardly a barometer for quality MMA broadcasting.

@maxkellerman has no business talking UFC or MMA at any capacity

I see Max Kellerman is trending for his UFC commentary. Thankfully I’m watching the broadcast in Espanol.

Max Kellerman should stick to commentating on boxing. He’s way out of his element in the UFC. #UFC265

Just took a quick glance at #MMATwitter & my concerns were confirmed: Max Kellerman had no idea what he was talking about in the #UFC265 intro. It must be so frustrating for hard working #MMA journalists to listen to network talking heads who can’t be bothered to do the work.

#UFC265 I think a fight between the commentators is about to break out lol

— Andrea Lee (@AndreaKGBLee) August 8, 2021

Max Kellerman should stick to Boxing talk. Can’t take him serious on First Take or during UFC Events.

Stephen A…. Now Max Kellerman…. What is going on with ufc

— Brock Rosenquist (@brockr1214) August 8, 2021

ESPN really needs to rethink its UFC commentators strategy.

Max Kellerman is one of the best in business in the boxing world. He’s so good he even earned a role in boxing movies like Creed and Creed II. The MMA is an entirely different sport though, and Kellerman isn’t well-versed.

ESPN should give bigger roles to former fighters who know more about the sport. Kellerman isn’t the man for the job.
