It was previously believed the Brooklyn Nets would give Kyrie Irving ultimate freedom regarding his availability this season. The organization went the opposite direction on Tuesday, though.
The Nets have announced Irving will not be allowed to practice or play with the team until he’s able, if ever, to become a full participant.
“Given the evolving nature of the situation and after thorough deliberation, we have decided Kyrie Irving will not play or practice with the team until he is eligible to be a full participant,” the Nets announced. “Kyrie has made a personal choice, and we respect his individual right to choose. Currently the choice restricts his ability to be a full-time member of the team, and we will not permit any member of our team to participate with part-time availability.”
Nets GM Sean Marks revealed on Tuesday afternoon that the decision was made by him and owner Joe Tsai. The two clearly deemed it wasn’t worth waiting on Irvin to make up his mind.
Sean Marks says that the decision on Kyrie came down to him and Joe Tsai.

It was only a matter of time before the Nets came to a decision like this.
Brooklyn allowed Kyrie Irving plenty of freedom last season. This is an entirely different scenario, though.
Asking head coach Steve Nash to prepare to play games with Irving, only to not have him the very next night, is completely ridiculous.
The ball is now in Irving’s court. He can get vaccinated and be a full participant with the Brooklyn Nets. Or, he could remain unvaccinated and not play at all this upcoming season. The choice is his.
