Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has a new idea for the NFL’s overtime rules.
Wilson appeared on Peyton and Eli Manning’s Monday Night Football broadcast earlier this week. The Raiders beat the Ravens in overtime. During his appearance, Wilson revealed his suggestion for new overtime rules.
“I’ve got a crazy idea. Imagine this right here. Imagine we went through this whole thing, this 10-minute overtime, or whatever, nobody scored. You come back in for another coin toss. Do the coin toss… The Raiders come out for a second coin toss, and they win it,” Wilson said.
“So now you get to choose, for one kick – are we going to kick it, or are they going to kick It? You have to kick it from the 35, or maybe the 40.”

NFL fans aren’t really buying it, though.
“There is already a good overtime system, the college system. It’s good and fun. Only wrinkle I would add is if still tied after each team had a turn, start 5 yards further back,” one fan tweeted.
“I wish they went for a penalty shootout Each offense against defense. Set up on both sides of the field. One team goes first. Five attempts from 5 yard line. Fans in both ends ones will get action, it will be relatively quick, will improve goal line packages and be exciting,” another fan suggested.
“Good idea but instead of a FG, you the ball at the 25 and have 4 downs to score a TD or the other team wins,” one fan replied.
The NFL has tweaked with its overtime rules in recent years, but a complete overhaul of the system probably isn’t happening anytime soon.
