On Tuesday afternoon, teams from around the league made tough decisions regarding who would be on their final 53-man rosters.
Among those making difficult choices were the Jacksonville Jaguars. Earlier this afternoon, the Jaguars released former first-round wide receiver Phillip Dorsett – among others.
Following the roster cuts, Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer was asked if vaccinations were a determining factor.
“Everyone was considered,” Meyer said. “That was part of the [considerations such as] production, let’s start talking about this, and also is he vaccinated or not? Can I say that that was a decision maker? It was certainly in consideration.”
Most coaches across the league likely have a similar thought process. However, Meyer’s comments could land him in some trouble with the NFLPA.
According to a report from NFL insider Mark Maske, the NFLPA’s George Atallah said Meyer’s comments are “a concern and we are going to look into it.”

Earlier this offseason, the NFL reportedly called Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane to “reinforce to him that a player cannot be released solely on vaccination status.”
It was an agreement the NFL and NFLPA reportedly came to once vaccinations were readily available.
It’s unclear if Meyer will face punishment for his comments, but he likely wasn’t the only coach thinking along those lines. The first-year head coach has found himself in potentially hot water yet again.
