The Oklahoma Sooners were supposed to open their season with a game in New Orleans against the Tulane Green Wave. But Hurricane Ida has forced the two teams to alter those plans.
The two programs announced today that while Oklahoma-Tulane, will be played this Saturday, it will no longer be played in New Orleans. Instead, the game is being moved to Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma.
Hurricane Ida has caused immense damage in New Orleans and the surrounding area. It’s doubtful that it would be safe to play any sports in or around the city by the weekend.
As a result, Oklahoma have an extra home game this season and will play their first four games at home. For Tulane, it’s another issue entirely.

Tulane play their games at Yulman Stadium in New Orleans. They’re supposed to play Morgan State on September 11, but that plan is now in limbo too.
It’s not the first time Tulane has been forced to adapt due to hurricane problems. When Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, the Green Wave wound up playing their six home games at six different venues across the country.
We can only hope that Tulane are able to resolve their stadium situation quickly. Hopefully the damage from Hurricane Ida isn’t too severe.
Oklahoma vs. Tulane will be played on Saturday at noon EST and will air on ABC.
