In a thrilling Sunday Night Football matchup between the Washington Commanders and the Broncos, former Titans wide receiver Treylon Burks made a viral catch even though the Commanders lost the contest. Burks caught the attention of the media last night for his once-in-a-lifetime catch and even had former Giants legend wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. react, who made a similar catch earlier. Despite the team now being 3-9, the wideout made sure to carve out a name for himself. With Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel back in the lineup, it gives Burks somewhat of a role in the slant route position as the No. 3 receiver ever since they lost their second-year player, Luke McCaffrey, to a season-ending injury.

“One Hand Catch” From Treylon Burks Could Intrigue a 2026 Free Agent Market
Burks was supposed to enter the 2026 season in free agency, but it looks like he may have found his home in Washington. However, the Commanders could have other plans as they may re-sign Samuel on a new deal, and McCaffrey will return to reclaim his starting role. McLaurin had a resurgent game against the Broncos as well, so these three wideouts might be enough for the Commanders.
The former first-round pick of the 2022 NFL Draft was cut from the Titans after suffering a fractured collarbone. Washington gave him a chance on the practice squad and elevated him as the team lacked starting receivers on the depth chart due to injuries. It’s not the biggest revival of his career, but the catch should put him in good faith to close out the 2025 season, and these teams could be interested if the Commanders part ways with Burks in the offseason, which is likely.
Possible Next Teams
Suitors Emerge
Los Angeles Chargers
Quarterback Justin Herbert has an arm like a missile. This means that he could give any receiver who is looking to revive their career a boost. With Keenan Allen aging and Quentin Johnston still dealing with inconsistency issues, the Chargers could finally add some depth in free agency. The Chargers never added a ton of depth in free agency last offseason, but drafted KeAndre Lambert-Smith and Tre Harris. While these receivers are the future of this receiving corps alongside breakout Ladd McConkey, they could use another receiver.
Burks won’t get all of the attention in this unit, but being a part of a good football team like the Chargers should give Burks more confidence to make an impact.
Los Angeles Rams
If any head coach in the league can bring out something in Burks, it’s Sean McVay. The Los Angeles Rams have one of the most talented duos between Davante Adams and Puka Nacua, but the depth chart for the wideout position could use some work. With Tutu Atwell on IR, the team had to depend on unproven wideouts like Xavier Smith, Jordan Whittington and Konata Mumpfield. It’s not ideal for their postseason hopes, and the addition of Burks won’t be explosive, but it’s better than the outlook of their backup help.
Buffalo Bills
Meanwhile, the Bills are lacking star power in their receiver unit. Keon Coleman is having a down year, and while Joshua Palmer and Khalil Shakir have been holding things in place, they still need another offensive weapon to avoid things from being too shaky. Veteran Brandin Cooks is a temporary fix, but if Burks does well with Washington, the Bills should be interested in acquiring him this upcoming offseason to provide some type of boost.
