Patriots veteran player Matthew Slater had a pretty awesome message for rookie quarterback Mac Jones on Sunday afternoon.
Jones and the New England Patriots pulled off a hard-fought, 25-22 comeback win over the Houston Texans on Sunday afternoon. The Patriots found themselves down 22-9 in the third quarter, but Jones’ never stopped fighting.
The rookie out of Alabama wound up completing 23 of his 30 pass attempts for 231 yards and one touchdown with one pick. His stats don’t tell the full story, though. His competitive spirit was on full display, evident by a bloodied chin from a shot he took in the fourth quarter.
Slater couldn’t help but praise the young quarterback for his toughness and perseverance after beating the Texans on Sunday.
“Young fella, great toughness, man. Great toughness,” Slater told Jones, via NESN.com. “Appreciate you.”
Take a look.
“How about this offensive line?”

If there were any doubts about the Patriots’ chemistry specifically in the locker room, those doubts can be put to rest. Mac Jones has clearly won over his teammates, especially the veteran ones.
In five games this season, Jones has thrown for 1,243 yards and five touchdowns with five interceptions.
The Patriots, meanwhile, are now 2-3 on the season. They may have saved their season with their comeback win over the Houston Texans.
We’ll learn plenty about this New England team and what it’s made of this Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. Jones will have to have one of his best performances to pull out a win.
