Raiders Sign Another Former Alabama Star Running Back

The Las Vegas Raiders love players from Alabama and Clemson, and they haven’t been afraid to stock up at the running back position. Today, they signed a notable player who checks all of the boxes.

Bo Scarbrough has bounced around a lot, since leaving Alabama in 2018. After winning two national titles in college, he was a seventh round pick by the Dallas Cowboys, but was released ahead of the season.

He had a practice squad appearance with the Jacksonville Jaguars that year, before signing with the Seattle Seahawks for the first time. He got his first NFL carries the following year, rushing it 89 times for 377 yards and a score in six games with the Detroit Lions. The following year, back with the Seahawks, he ran the ball six times for 31 yards, appearing in one game.

The Raiders already have a pair of Alabama running backs on the roster. Josh Jacobs is in his third year with the team, and they just signed veteran Kenyan Drake, another former Crimson Tide standout. Scarbrough makes it a trio in the backfield.

Listed at 6-foot-1, 235 pounds, Scarbrough is an imposing force in the backfield. At Alabama, he rushed with 1,512 yards and 20 touchdowns, topping out at 125 rushes for 812 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2016. It is hard to project if he’ll be able to carve out a role, as Las Vegas is heavily invested in Jacobs and paid Drake a fair amount this offseason to be an RB2. Veteran Jalen Richard and rookies B.J. Emmons, Garrett Groshek, and Trey Ragas are also on the roster this summer.

He is the sixth former Alabama football player to join the roster, along with Jacobs, Drake, Henry Ruggs III, Alex Leatherwood, and Lester Cotton Sr.

Throw in the five Clemson players, and the idea that Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock key in on the College Football Playoff above all else is a hard one to dismiss.
