After salvaging the entire pass-catching unit, the Houston Texans will likely put wide receiver John Metchie on the trade block. According to Bleacher Report, they are urging to trade Metchie since they have too many offensive weapons for quarterback CJ Stroud. This is true after trading for Christian Kirk and signing Justin Watson this offseason, which comes after losing Tank Dell to a gruesome injury, and it will keep him out for the entire 2025 campaign. Metchie was hoping to get a new role due to this injury, but after recording just 254 receiving yards and one touchdown, the wide receiver is becoming an afterthought in this unit.
The wideout is entering the final year of his contract, and he doesn’t have the leverage in contract negotiations if it even comes to it. The Texans drafting Jaylin Noel this year only means Metchie could be playing his last season with the team if they don’t trade him before the campaign starts. Originally selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Alabama product spent his rookie season recovering from a Leukemia diagnosis, but later returned to the offense the year after that. Metchie hasn’t been the most productive receiver due to little playing time and other weapons that Stroud has, but this offseason puts the icing on the cake for the wide receiver’s future, so here are four suitors who could target him.

Potential Destinations
Dallas Cowboys
Despite trading for George Pickens, the Dallas Cowboys could use another wide receiver to better position Dak Prescott. They can’t lean on two receivers for the majority of the snaps, and even though Jalen Tolbert has the potential to earn another contract, they could add heat to the competition and get Metchie to challenge for the WR3 spot. Jonathan Mingo has been a disappointment, and Metchie could be a better fit in this offense.
Washington Commanders
Meanwhile, the wide receiver depth chart for the Washington Commanders, since Terry McLaurin will likely hold out, even though they aren’t looking to trade him. Deebo Samuel has been looking slow at practice, so that leaves an unproven Luke McCaffrey and Michael Gallup. Metchie is no different, but could lessen the pressure for Jayden Daniels to position him with several offensive weapons.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs will lose Rashee Rice for a couple of games due to a case he has. Between Xavier Worthy and Marquise Brown, they don’t really have anyone who could step up temporarily in this wide receiver unit. Justin Watson could’ve been the perfect slot option in this situation, but he’s with the Texans now, and perhaps, they could try to pull off a trade to get Metchie to help JuJu Smith-Schuster in the aerial attack.
Los Angeles Chargers
After losing Mike Williams to retirement, the Los Angeles Chargers are desperate for a wide receiver. Jalen Reagor won’t single-handedly save this unit behind Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston. While they did invest in getting draft picks, Tre Harris and KeAndre Lambert-Smith, Metchie adds a little bit of stability, who could turn into a proven playmaker.
