After declining his fifth-year option this offseason, the Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Devin Lloyd could be a possible trade candidate during the 2025 season. According to a report, since the Jaguars are not giving Lloyd a new extension then that means there’s no realistic future for him in Jacksonville. They might keep him for more seasons this year if things turn in the right direction, but that could easily change if the team endures another losing year, which seems unlikely. However, it is wise for the Jaguars to trade Lloyd to garner some draft capital and send him to a contender that needs a boost in their pass-rushing unit.
Originally selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Utah product has been with the Jaguars his entire career, earning a starting role in this defense after winning the Defensive Rookie of the Month, and it’s been a productive rookie year for the linebacker. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been the same pass-rusher since then, as Lloyd is unable to produce any type of production that would help Jacksonville. The Jaguars are already heading into the 2025 campaign with a new regime under new head coach Liam Coen, so there’s no clear future for Lloyd. Since they picked up linebacker Travon Walker’s fifth-year option, this could all but indicate the departure of Lloyd, but these four suitors could pursue him next.

Potential Destinations
Baltimore Ravens
The defensive pass-rushing unit for the Baltimore Ravens hasn’t been the same since 2023. After losing key contributors like Jadeveon Clowney, Geno Stone and Malik Harrison in two back-to-back offseasons, the Ravens have been heavily reliant on Kyle Van Noy and Roquan Smith to keep this defense alive. While they do see some spark from Odafe Oweh, it hasn’t been the same for Trenton Simpson and David Ojabo, who have been holding this team back. Devin Lloyd could earn a starting spot in this defensive team if Oweh decides to depart in next year’s free agency.
Washington Commanders
Meanwhile, the Commanders are reportedly not looking to add any pass-rushers, but they can’t ignore the unit that could keep them in ball games. The team lost its sack leader, Dante Fowler Jr., to their bitter rival, and guys like Bobby Wagner and Frankie Luvu need to step up. While Deatrich Wise Jr. and Dominique Hampton have some potential, it’s better to get a new presence like Lloyd to see what he could do for the long-term of this defense.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers are in dire need of a defensive playmaker, as Jim Harbaugh has refused to use any of the massive cap space the team has to invest. After losing Poona Ford and releasing Joey Bosa, they can’t be reluctant to let veteran Khalil Mack carry most of the production. They must find someone other than Bud Dupree to be a somewhat capable starter, and Lloyd could provide the upside they need.
New Orleans Saints
After losing Willie Gay this offseason, the New Orleans Saints will have to lean on DeMario Davis and Pete Werner. The Saints don’t have a strong offense that is willing to keep this team in the game, so they may have to depend on the defense to keep them competitive. While Lloyd isn’t the best linebacker in the league, he could turn this defense from average to great again.
