The biggest name from this year’s free agency class is finally off the board. On Friday afternoon, two-time NBA champion Kawhi Leonard made his decision.
According to Yahoo insider Chris Haynes, the Los Angeles Clippers are re-signing Leonard. The terms of his new deal are still being discussed. It’ll be interesting to see if Leonard signs a short-term deal or opts for a lengthier contract.
Most people in NBA circles expected Leonard to remain with the Clippers, but this is still a great day for the franchise nonetheless.
When healthy, Leonard is undoubtedly one of the best two-way players in the NBA. During the 2020-21 season, he averaged 24.8 points per game while making 51.2 percent of his shots from the field.
Leonard, 30, might have to miss the entire 2021-22 season due to a torn ACL. He suffered the injury in the second round of the playoffs against the Utah Jazz.

The Clippers didn’t just strike a new deal with Leonard this Friday, they also took care of business with veteran guard Reggie Jackson.
Earlier today, it was announced that Jackson signed a two-year, $22 million deal with Los Angeles. He was such an important part of the team’s playoff run this year.
If Leonard can return to the court at some point next season, the Clippers should be considered title contenders. However, it’s way too early to tell when he’ll be back to 100 percent.
