The Washington Football Team was back in action at FedEx Field on Friday night. Only this time, it was just a practice. The most important part of that practice was the fans.
Washington had 20,000 fans in attendance on Friday, and it was something the players and coaches enjoyed. After the game, multiple players spoke to the media, noting how great it felt to be on the field with fans.
Perhaps the happiest person in the Washington organization was head coach Ron Rivera. After the practice was over, Rivera took a microphone and spoke to the fans.
“Hey, Washington Football fans,” Rivera said. “Now you’re talking, that’s what I want to hear. Hey, we really appreciate you folks being out here, and our objective, our goal, is to give you guys something to cheer for and a reason to be out here. And going into this season, we’re gonna need each and every one of you and all of your friends that cheer for the Washington Football Team; we need you here. We need you here with us. Just know this: we’re gonna come out here and live up to who we are, and we are the Washington Football Team.”

No coach in recent Washington history has endeared themselves to the fan base quite like Rivera. The legendary Joe Gibbs would be the only one. Rivera has spoken frequently on how important it is for teams to have a strong home-field advantage.
Now, it’s up to the fans to fill up FedEx Field with burgundy and gold in 2021 — and beyond.
