Los Angeles Rams veteran tight end Tyler Higbee could be on thin ice this upcoming 2025 regular season after this year’s draft. According to one source, they believe the veteran could be playing his final year with the Rams as the team could be sticking with Terrence Ferguson as their immediate starter if he impresses. It makes sense why the Rams may be moving on since quarterback Matthew Stafford is getting older and will probably retire in two years, so this means the team could embrace the rebuild. Unfortunately, Higbee hasn’t been the same productive athlete after suffering a brutal injury in 2023.
Originally selected in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, the former Western Kentucky product has been dealing with injuries since his college years. Despite missing his invitation to play in the Senior Bowl, the Rams gave him an opportunity to compete for a starting job under former head coach Jeff Fisher. Higbee hasn’t been as productive as the Rams hoped, but he made plenty of crucial plays in several postseasons, earning a new four-year deal. Since the team let go of veteran Cooper Kupp this offseason, there’s a good chance that the Rams won’t be retaining the veteran tight end and will embrace a new era.
Higbee isn’t going to garner the best offer on the market if he becomes a free agent, but these five teams could take a chance on him.
RUMOR: Super Bowl Veteran Tyler Higbee May Be On “Thin Ice” – Could Seek Trade
Next Possible Teams
Los Angeles Chargers
Despite signing tight end Tyler Conklin, it’s never a bad time for the Los Angeles Chargers to add more pass catchers to their unit. The team still has one of the most depleted departments when it comes to the receivers, even though they drafted Tre Harris in this year’s draft. However, 2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey can’t do it alone, and it looks like that might be the case if they can’t figure out an answer beyond veteran Mike Williams. Tyler Higbee might be aging, but he could help relieve some pressure off the pass catchers and catch those crucial balls in critical moments.
Baltimore Ravens
It doesn’t look like the Baltimore Ravens will keep tight end Mark Andrews this upcoming season, due to the comments from the general manager. No one is taking Isaiah Likely’s job, but he needs another stabilizing force to help him in the aerial attack. Quarterback Lamar Jackson always finds a way to utilize his talent and could with Higbee.
Dallas Cowboys
Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys are still desperate for a pass catcher. They have failed to get a legitimate weapon alongside CeeDee Lamb, and time is ticking for this offense this season. Higbee won’t save this team single-handedly, but he could help Jake Ferguson, who missed the majority of the 2024 campaign.
Kansas City Chiefs
Super Bowl ringer Patrick Mahomes never fails to bring out the best in a good tight end. Travis Kelce is an example of that, but he may be playing his final season with the Kansas City Chiefs. Tyler Higbee won’t be the final solution, but the Chiefs could get him in the mix to boost the competition for the tight end unit.
Washington Commanders
The Commanders have found their short-term solution in veteran Zach Ertz. He was an enormous talent for quarterback Jayden Daniels, but they know Ertz isn’t getting any younger. Higbee might be aging too, but they might be better off signing him to a veteran deal to get involved as a backup.
