Soccer World Reacts To Lionel Messi’s New Home

August 11, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Argentina soccer star Lionel Messi.

When Lionel Messi and his longtime club F.C. Barcelona reached a breaking point last week, a frontrunner quickly emerged to sign the 34-year-old star: Paris Saint-Germain. On Tuesday afternoon, the striker’s move to the French powerhouse inched closer to completion.

Messi traveled to Paris after his emotional final press conference at Barcelona on Sunday to work though negotiations on a new contract. ESPN reported that the 34-year-old forward has agreed to a two-year deal with PSG with an option to extend for a third-year.

As Messi moved around the French capital on Tuesday, he was seen wearing a shirt that said “Paris” on the front and he appeared to be in good spirits. For most of the day, video captured him waving and smiling to the numerous fans that took to the streets trying to catch a glimpse of one of the greatest players of all-time.

Meanwhile on social media, the soccer world grappled with the fact that Messi will be playing for another club other than Barcelona this upcoming year.

At PSG, Messi will get a chance to take the field alongside Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, both of whom have become top-tier players in their own right. The Ligue 1 club will now easily be the favorite to come out on top in the country’s top league.

Messi will always be remembered for his career at Barcelona where he scored 672 goals in 778 games across all competitions for the club. He debuted for iconic team all the way back in 2004 and spent the next 15 years becoming one of the best players of all time.

At the age of 34, Messi has still shown that he can be one of the most dynamic players around the world. He’ll now bring his talents to Paris Saint-Germain and do his best to keep competing for titles until his career draws to a close.
