Sports Media World Is Debating Jim Nantz, Ian Eagle

March 31, 2022 by The Spun

Jim Nantz at the 2016 Final Four.

On the latest episode of the Marchand and Ourand Sports Media podcast, Andrew Marchand of the New York Post made an interesting comment regarding Ian Eagle and Jim Nantz.

With the NCAA tournament in full swing, Marchand said Eagle has proved that he’s “clearly the better play-by-play broadcaster” than Nantz.

That comment from Marchand sparked an interesting debate on Twitter. Some people agree with this take, while others believe Nantz has more range.

“Yes! Surprise! Surprise,” one fan said. “People that call more games if a sport are better than those who call very few until March. I think this every year with Kevin Harlan.”

“Ian Eagle is almost as versatile as Jim Nantz,” Tom Penders said. “Nantz brings clarity and class to every CBS telecast no matter what sport he broadcasts. Ian and Jim Spanarkle are a great team but Nantz and college basketball are synonymous. Jim can work for CBS as long as he wants to IMHO.”

“Nantz is absolutely phenomenal on the NFL and golf,” Chase Snyder tweeted. “With basketball, it feels like a corporate event. Especially with Raft and Hill. I very much enjoyed just Nantz and Raft when Hill filled in with Eagle. But the 3 of them together is just an odd match. Sounds like a meeting.”

At the end of the day, Eagle and Nantz are two of the best in the business.

We’ll get to hear Nantz call the Final Four for CBS on Saturday.
