Stephen Curry Has Message For KD, Draymond, Team USA After Gold Medal Win

August 8, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Steph Curry and Kevin Durant on the court.

Team USA shook off a rocky start to capture Olympic gold with a win over France on Friday night. Kevin Durant led the way on the court, while Draymond Green was perhaps the most vociferous celebrator afterwards. Stephen Curry had some words for his current and former Golden State Warriors teammates after Friday night’s gold medal win.

Durant picked up right where he left off this year with the Brooklyn Nets, and absolutely dominated in the elimination rounds of the Olympics, after the team’s rough patches in exhibition and group play. He scored 29 points in the gold medal game, winning the top Olympic prize for the third time in his career, matching Carmelo Anthony. He overtook Anthony as the highest scoring American Olympian in history.

Green, meanwhile, has been busy clapping back at Team USA’s doubters like ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins. After exhibition losses to Nigeria and Australia, and a group stage loss to this same French team, Perk and others called out the U.S. stars for their play. Green has revelled in it today.

“What did he say?? Skill set is unmatched,” Curry posted to Instagram, along with an American flag emoji. “Congrats fella! @usabasketball @money23green @easymoneysniper,” tagging Draymond, KD, and the Team USA Basketball Instagram accounts.

Interestingly, Stephen Curry has never participated in the Olympics, one of the few holes on his Hall of Fame resume. He was in the mix for the 2016 team, but withdrew as he dealt with ankle and knee issues following the 2015-16 season.

He has played in two major international tournaments, winning FIBA World Cup gold medals in 2010 and 2014. A number of major stars opted out of this year’s Olympics, especially with the crazy schedule of the last two NBA seasons, so it isn’t a shock that Curry didn’t choose to play in this summer’s games.

His next opportunity will come in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Curry will be 36.
