The Houston Texans have reportedly made a decision on whether or not Deshaun Watson will be on their final 53-man roster for the 2021 season.
There have been rumblings the Texans would elect to move on from Watson, particularly through the means of a trade, ahead of the 2021 season. And while those rumblings are bound to continue on later this fall, it’s more likely the Texans choose to hold onto the star quarterback rather than rush to any major decisions. It sounds like that’s the plan.
Per NFL insider Aaron Wilson, the Texans plan to keep Watson on their final 53-man roster. Yet, he’ll remain inactive every week and still be paid his $10.54 million salary. In other words, the Texans will be paying Watson, who wants out of Houston, millions of dollars to watch games from the sideline. There is still, of course, the plausibility the Texans find a trade partner during the season.
For now, it appears Houston is holding out hope Watson will change his mind and play for the Texans this upcoming season all while awaiting a decision from the NFL.

This is probably the Texans’ best course of action surrounding Deshaun Watson. Houston is awaiting word from the NFL and will move forward from there. Until then, the Texans might as well keep Watson around, even if he’s on the sideline during games.
The NFL is still investigating the sexual misconduct allegations against Watson. The league wants as much information as possible before coming to a decision.
