Texans Reportedly Signing Former Patriots WR

The Houston Texans are trying to change their team culture. To do so, they’re bringing in a veteran wide receiver who has championship experience.

The Texans reportedly signed wide receiver Danny Amendola on Tuesday night, per NFL insider Tom Pelissero. Houston’s bringing in the former New England Patriots’ play-maker on a one-year, $2.5 million deal.

Amendola, 35, spent the last two years with the Detroit Lions. In 2020 he played in 14 games and had 46 catches for 602 yards. A year prior the veteran wideout caught 62 passes for 678 yards and a score.

Amendola could put up even better numbers this year in a Texans offense lacking play-makers.

Danny Amendola is still playing at a pretty high level, despite his age. He, of course, is best known for his days catching passes from Tom Brady and playing for the New England Patriots from 2013 through 2017.

The Texans are in desperate need of a culture change. It’s unlikely to take place until a decision is made on star quarterback Deshaun Watson, who will not play in Week 1 as he continues his holdout. Houston, meanwhile, won’t move Watson until the NFL concludes its investigation into the sexual misconduct allegations against the young star.

Regardless, the Texans are attempting to put their off-field distractions behind them. Amendola should help implement a much-needed culture change thanks to his veteran leadership.

The Houston Texans begin the 2021 season this Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
