The wait is almost over

While many people were hoping that the new team name would be the Wolves or RedWolves, team president Jason Wright explained that those names came with some trademark issues that they couldn’t overcome.
“One of the most awesome and powerful aspects of this process has been getting to hear and understand your preferences directly, and we know that many of you loved one or both of these names,” Wright said.
“Understanding the weight and importance of our team name, and excitement around other name options — both internally and within our fan base — we didn’t want to risk going down a route that could be dotted with legal hurdles.”
Given the date of the announcement (2/2), many believe that the new team name will be the Washington Groundhogs. And a peak at the US Trademark Office shows an approved filing for this very name by a major sports licensor and attorney, complete with a cringeworthy logo that’s sure to make us the laughing stock of the league.
Here’s hoping that they’re just trying to fake us out, and they come back with something awesome next month. Only time will tell, so stay tuned!
