Tress Way is Washington’s longest-tenured player. Way was claimed off waivers in Aug. 2014 and never missed a game until he was sidelined for Washington’s Week 17 game against the Philadelphia Eagles due to COVID-19.
It snapped a streak of 127 consecutive games played.
So, with eight seasons in Washington, Way is one of a few players heavily invested in Washington’s new name — scheduled to be revealed on Feb. 2.
In his Monday meeting with the local media, Way was asked what three names he would be okay with for Washington’s new name.
As usual, Way did not disappoint.
“Wow, John putting me on blast there,” Way answered.
“I definitely loved when the all old dudes would come back around in the locker room, and the welcome home luncheons and some of the Hogs, so I think Red Hogs would be pretty sweet,” Way said for his first choice. “Plus, you can keep that HTTR acronym rolling with that.”
His second choice?
“I definitely, definitely dig that Commanders vibe. That just, keep in mind, I am born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, that just sounds like D.C. That just sounds kinda, you know, level up, executive style nation’s capital.”
And Way’s third choice:
“And then anything, I am definitely pro-ending in s. So, even if we go with Admirals and we’re really tying into our military roots, we’re in the frickin’ nation’s capital. I think those are probably my big three.”
The longest-tenured WFT player had one more joke.
“You know, shockingly, they really haven’t asked for my opinion, but I’m going to be ecstatic to be here anyway,” Way said.
Some Washington fans would probably like to know if Way was a fan of RedWolves? Or, was this his original final three?
Way is a fun guy and a great punter. He’s always an entertaining listen and his Monday meeting with the media did not disappoint.
