The Vikings may be without one of their star defensive players when they begin the season on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Linebacker Anthony Barr did not practice on Thursday. It’s a bad sign for his availability against the Bengals on Sunday.
Barr spent most of the offseason recovering from a knee injury. He did return to the practice field on Wednesday, but was just a limited participant. A day later, the Vikings linebacker wasn’t able to give it a go.
It’s looking less and less likely Barr will play on Sunday in the Vikings’ season opener.
“He was a little bit sore from what he did yesterday so we’ll see tomorrow,” said head coach Mike Zimmer when discussing Barr’s status on Thursday.

Anthony Barr has spent his entire professional career in Minnesota. In seven years with the Vikings, the linebacker has 423 tackles, 36 tackles for loss, 15 sacks and two interceptions. Barr’s status for Sunday’s game is up in the air at the moment.
Luckily for Minnesota, it should be able to get past a Bengals team that, while on the rise, is outmatched against a talented Vikings’ roster. A week later, Minnesota will travel to Arizona to take on the Cardinals. The Vikings could use Barr by then, but they’re not going to rush him into action.
Barr’s status will continue to be in question leading up to the Vikings’ season opener on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals.
