Washington DE Chase Young offers scouting reports on Rashawn Slater and Nick Bosa

September 10, 2021 by Redskins Wire

Washington defensive end Chase Young remembers Los Angeles Chargers left tackle Rashawn Slater well from his time at Northwestern. The two went head-to-head in 2019 and, while Young’s Ohio State Buckeyes blew out Slater’s Northwestern squad, the rookie left tackle had a bit of a breakout performance against the future NFL defensive rookie of the year.

When Slater declared for the 2021 NFL draft, many pointed to his tape against Young in 2019 as proof he could be a star left tackle in the NFL. After Thursday’s practice, Young was asked about Slater and gave the following scouting report.

“He has real good feet, strong hands,” Young said. “Their whole O-line looking pretty good.”

Young was also asked his strategy when he faced players like Slater, which he’s faced before if some of his moves do not work initially. He ended his answer with a simple formula:

“We got to change it up,” Young said. “Go hard every play. That’s the No. 1 thing you gotta do. I feel like, in my mind, if I go hard every play, he can’t block me every time.”

Young wouldn’t say it, but he can hardly wait to face Slater — the No. 13 overall pick in this year’s draft.

Slater wasn’t the only member of the Chargers Young was questioned about on Thursday. Reporters also asked Young about Los Angeles pass-rusher Joey Bosa.

He offered the following scouting report:

“Joey is an animal,” Young said.” Relentless, great technician, a guy who is going to play every snap.”

Young knows Bosa from his time at Ohio State. While the two didn’t play together, Bosa’s younger brother, Nick, was a teammate of Young’s at Ohio State, and the two do have a relationship.
