Players who were drafted highest yet contributed little were, of course, the most disappointing.
For starters, we provide two honorable mention candidates:
Wally Kleine (48 overall in 1987) was a big tackle from Notre Dame who was going to step in and join the Hogs. However, Kleine was injured and, after two seasons of not being able to play a single down, was out of the NFL. Sadly, Kleine died at the age of 43 of heart failure.
For completely differing reasons we go with Derrius Guice. Guice wasn’t drafted until 59th in 2018. But that was strictly because of behavioral issues by Guice. He was extremely talented and would have been drafted even earlier. Guice then tore his ACL, and when he was arrested in 2020, the Redskins parted ways with Guice.
