Another qualifier approaches, so naturally everyone is enraged
D.C. United trained at their new digs for the first time yesterday, a bunch of former United players popped up in the news elsewhere, and of course the USMNT’s qualifier tomorrow has ruined my Twitter timeline because everyone is furious rather than able to talk.
I’ve got plenty of energy after having to dash through the grocery store just before they closed, so let’s talk about the things that happened:

I wish I had more information for you about United’s training facility opening, but what I know is in these tweets and on player social media. I assume there will be a tour for fans and/or media sometime down the road, but right now…it’s good that it’s open! An important step for the club! That’s about my entire thought.
USA vs. Costa Rica, 2022 CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying: Scouting Costa Rica | Stars and Stripes FC
With USMNT twitter responding to one poor performance by drawing up plans to dissolve MLS or something else completely logical and definitely not a sign of brain worms, we have the joy of that crop of perpetually enraged folks (and the people who can’t help but argue with them) flooding our social media timelines for the next ~40 hours.
Anyway, here’s a fun thing about this game now that I’m done complaining about the woeful quality of the discourse: Álvaro Saborío, at 39, has been called up by Costa Rica as a last-second injury replacement. Yes he’s still playing, and actually doing pretty well: he’s a starter at AD San Carlos in the Costa Rican top flight, with 7 goals in 14 games. The kicker here is that he’s been called up because a different ex-DCU striker (José Guillermo Ortíz) tested positive for Covid-19.

This was a fun episode of Lynn Williams and Sam Mewis’ podcast Snacks, which is back after a post-Olympic break.
I don’t have much else for you guys, I spent most of my day working or running errands and basically missed everything. There’s a Washington Spirit game tomorrow, and we’ll have some Spirit thoughts later today. Other than that, enjoy your Tuesday!
