Day 2 of the 2024 NFL draft is in the books, and it was a good day for the Washington Commanders. Washington made five picks on Friday, including three second-round picks and two third-round picks. A trade with the Eagles netted the Commanders an extra second-rounder in a pick swap.
General manager Adam Peters made it known quickly that he is always going to draft the best player available. On the clock at No. 36, the Commanders selected Illinois defensive tackle Jer’zhan “Johnny” Newton despite the position being the deepest on Washington’s roster.
Throughout the rest of Day 2, the Commanders filled their needs by sticking to their board. How did Washington fare?
We grade all five selections from the second and third rounds. Washington will not be downgraded for not picking an offensive tackle with the second-round picks, as it picked the best available players and did not reach for a lower-ranked lineman.
